Cockpit info needed 1 Year, 11 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi guys

I'm busy working on a project for the virtual USAF (vusaf.org) which conducts its ops on Microsoft Flightsim. I'm trying to create a cockpit for Flight Sim that leaves nothing out that is in the real bird. To do that I need images and diagrams of all the MFD's, the HUD, JHMCS, etc. as well as how to operate each function in the cockpit. Is there anyone who can supply me with this info?

Thanks

Hello Jonathan,

First of all, welcome to the SEF!
As for your request, fortunately there are lots of info available. Let's go through them:
  • I'm not up-to-date on it, but I recall hearing about an F-15E model for the MS Flightsim. Did you check it?

  • For images I think the best way to go is to buy Jake Melampy's book, the Modern Eagle Guide, it has tons of close shots.

  • For MFD screens, HUD diagrams I suggest to browse our Cockpit category for a start and then move on to other docs. The F-15E Flight Manual (TO 1F-15E-1, or Dash-1) is available for sale on the Internet, however you can purchase only a well outdated version of it - for obvious reasons. Because of the same reasons I doubt you could get your hands on detailed descriptions of the screens and diagrams used currently on Strike Eagles - at least not until you actually join the real USAF. Images of the dashboard itself are available (see Jake's book), but not the exact workings and handling of the systems themselves.

  • I don't know about JHMCS documentation available, sorry.

  • Another idea: there is a Canadian company called MilViz (Military Visualizations), check out their website and forums, they do have an extremely well detailed Strike Eagle cockpit model, maybe they can help.

I hope I was able to help, a bit at least

Cheers

Looks like my only option is to get hold of someone who flies the bird. If you know someone could you possibly put me in contact with them? Mil vis for some reason doesn't want to work properly on my pc. Regarding existing models for FS, I have about the best one out there and its panel isn't very realistic. I'm wanting to edit it to make it more realistic.

Thanks

Hello Jonathan,

I understand your problem, unfortunately it's not easy to get help from insiders to a project like this nowadays - escpecially not when you are talking about a top-of-the-line weapons system. I can only wish you good luck in your quest.

Thanks for the wishes. Had another look at milvis and they seem pretty good. But can you help me out with a link to the latest flight manual available? Need at least after 1999 cuz I want to include the AGM-154 JSOW and AGM-130 as well as AGM-84H in my weapons system.

Thanks
Jono

I purchased mine from eflightmanuals.com, but that's an 1990 version (hardly up-to-date). I have no info on newer versions, however if there's a newer one which is (legally) available, I'd be interested.

I'd suggest contacting the F-15(E/I/K/S/SG) Program Office at Boeing (via their website?) Since they're the ones building and integrating these systems (HUD, Instruments, flight control inputs, sensor data, weapons interface, etc.), that might be a good place to start... Good luck!

Lights + Cockpit info needed 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hello Szabolcs !
Hi Folks !
Yep, im new here , but i need some technical infos too - (for modeling F-15C/E lights in DigitalCcombatSimulator) - about External Lights and about the Landing/Taxi Light Toggle Switch in the cockpit. I hope these infos are not classified.
PLZ dont write me: ask Boeing/McDonnell Douglas

so...
With the Landing/Taxi Light Switch the pilot able to turn on Landing/Taxi lights ONLY separately ?
Any possibility switching/turning on BOTH Landing and Taxi Light (like on A-10) ?

Can the Ground Crew move/set/adjust vertically the luminaires to change the angles of axis/midline of projected lights ? (or luminaires totally fixed ?)

Default axis of Landing Light ? (~7-10 degrees downward ?)
Projected light angle of Landing Light (total: ~45-50deg horizontally/vertically ?)

Default axis of Taxi Light ? 1-2 degrees upward ?
Projected light angle of Taxi Light (total: ~15-20deg ?)

Differences in performance ? - output/luminous intensity/Watts ? - (~Landing Light two times brighter than Taxi Light ? )

more:
Periods between flashes of Anti-Collision Lights ? (~ 0.6 sec ?)

Periods between flashes of Position Lights ?
(Iv never seen Eagles with flashing position lights, so it's also my guess: ~1.2 sec)
If the Position lights are flashing then flash/work with Anti-Collision Lights together in same moments ?
(ALL 6 lights are blinking in unison? : ACLs flash 2 while Position Lights flash 1 ? )

Thanks in advance for the answers

Hi HungaroJET,

Quite a few question at once! Let's wait if someone in the know (aircrew or ground crew) visits our forums and supplies you with the answer. In the meantime I'll put out my feelers and see what can I get for you. No promise, though...
