ORLANDO - Lockheed Martin reports that the U.S. Air Force has selected the company's Sniper Advanced Targeting pod as the winner of a 60 percent share of the Advanced Targeting Pod-Sensor Enhancement ( ATP-SE) competition. The Sensor Enhancement configuration is a field-level upgrade to existing pods.
Under the terms of this contract, the government has options to buy up to 670 pods through 2017. If all options are exercised, Lockheed Martin's share of the program will total more than $1 billion. The initial contract value is $23.5 million, which will be used to procure pods for the government's test program. Lockheed Martin states that Sniper has new enhanced sensors for combat identification and a two-way datalink, expanding its non-traditional intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (NT-ISR) and net-centric capabilities. The Sniper pod's hardware and software configuration provides "plug-and-play" flexibility across services and multiple platforms. Sniper offers precision targeting capabilities for the U.S. Air Force and coalition partner F-15, F-16, A-10, B-1 and B-52 aircraft. |
