I think it is always sad when Pilots are killed no matter where they are based or who they are.Rest In Peace.
MY condolences to their families.friends and colleagues.
Do the Iranians have the capacity and the facility to maintain these Tomcats as their Western counterparts do to maintain the Aircraft is kept in tip top condition.

For decades there has been an embargo on any parts associated with the F-14. To the point that the F-14s used in the TV show JAG had to be destroyed incase parts somehow found their way to Iran. When an aircraft is decomissioned and is no longer going to be used for parts for the remaining fleet, essential parts are de-militarized and made unusable and unrepairable.
As far as the Iranians go, I'm sure they have been able to reverse engineer many of the parts on the F-14s. If they are capable of building nuclear reactors, they can build aircraft parts. There has been quite a bit of discussion on the functionality of the Iranian F-14s.

Thanks for that reply launcherman..you are right that if they have such capabale minds to make war weapons then they have the know-how, the knowledge to make their jets airworthy..
There have now been many fighter jets crashing all over the place that it makes Me wonder of it ALL of it mechanical or does some human error come into play; as these pilots are trained SO highly that I cannot see them perform less than what is expecetd form them or warranted...
I also heard recently that a COBRA or some Helo has crashed somewhere{ not sure where and whether that is true} but that had been decommissioned and used in a TV program and I think with such intricate designed machines such a JETS AND OTHER AIRCRFATS they should be kept for other "military " purpose such as museums rather than use them in TV sows even if the pilots is fully trained and is or was or has been a ex Forces pilot..if the equipment is faulty then he /she has no chance at all.
I fele deeply saddend when a Pilot dies like that.
