Interesting but with a few minor errors. Since the M61A1 system has been installed in the F-15E its ammunition capacity has been 510 +/-3 rounds and the firing position is closer to the 7o'clock position. Though to be fair, by time the round exits the barrel its position would be closer to the 9o'clock position. As far as lighter weight systems, the M61A2 which is used in the F-22 and F-18, shaved nearly 50lbs off the gun
by milling down the thickness of the barrels and by removing unneeded material from the gun
housing and rotor. Last time I was at the gun depot at Hill AFB
, they had not seen effects of the milled system on its life expectancy.
