Cockpit info needed 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi guys

I'm busy working on a project for the virtual USAF (vusaf.org) which conducts its ops on Microsoft Flightsim. I'm trying to create a cockpit for Flight Sim that leaves nothing out that is in the real bird. To do that I need images and diagrams of all the MFD's, the HUD, JHMCS, etc. as well as how to operate each function in the cockpit. Is there anyone who can supply me with this info?

Thanks

Hello Jonathan,

First of all, welcome to the SEF!
As for your request, fortunately there are lots of info available. Let's go through them:
  • I'm not up-to-date on it, but I recall hearing about an F-15E model for the MS Flightsim. Did you check it?

  • For images I think the best way to go is to buy Jake Melampy's book, the Modern Eagle Guide, it has tons of close shots.

  • For MFD screens, HUD diagrams I suggest to browse our Cockpit category for a start and then move on to other docs. The F-15E Flight Manual (TO 1F-15E-1, or Dash-1) is available for sale on the Internet, however you can purchase only a well outdated version of it - for obvious reasons. Because of the same reasons I doubt you could get your hands on detailed descriptions of the screens and diagrams used currently on Strike Eagles - at least not until you actually join the real USAF. Images of the dashboard itself are available (see Jake's book), but not the exact workings and handling of the systems themselves.

  • I don't know about JHMCS documentation available, sorry.

  • Another idea: there is a Canadian company called MilViz (Military Visualizations), check out their website and forums, they do have an extremely well detailed Strike Eagle cockpit model, maybe they can help.

I hope I was able to help, a bit at least

Cheers

Looks like my only option is to get hold of someone who flies the bird. If you know someone could you possibly put me in contact with them? Mil vis for some reason doesn't want to work properly on my pc. Regarding existing models for FS, I have about the best one out there and its panel isn't very realistic. I'm wanting to edit it to make it more realistic.

Thanks

Hello Jonathan,

I understand your problem, unfortunately it's not easy to get help from insiders to a project like this nowadays - escpecially not when you are talking about a top-of-the-line weapons system. I can only wish you good luck in your quest.

Thanks for the wishes. Had another look at milvis and they seem pretty good. But can you help me out with a link to the latest flight manual available? Need at least after 1999 cuz I want to include the AGM-154 JSOW and AGM-130 as well as AGM-84H in my weapons system.

Thanks
Jono

I purchased mine from eflightmanuals.com, but that's an 1990 version (hardly up-to-date). I have no info on newer versions, however if there's a newer one which is (legally) available, I'd be interested.

I'd suggest contacting the F-15(E/I/K/S/SG) Program Office at Boeing (via their website?) Since they're the ones building and integrating these systems (HUD, Instruments, flight control inputs, sensor data, weapons interface, etc.), that might be a good place to start... Good luck!
