Monday, 12 April 2010

An Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle crew experienced a landing gear malfunction while flying at Kunsan Air Base and landed safely at approximately 11:13 a.m. 8 April, 2010.
The F-15E is assigned to the 391st Expeditionary Fighter Squadron at Kunsan, deployed from Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho.
After takeoff, the aircrew experienced an unsafe gear indication. The crew orbited over Kunsan to burn down fuel, attempted to resolve the issue and took precautionary measures to prepare for the landing. After reaching a lower fuel weight the pilot successfully flew the aircraft to the runway and engaged the barrier bringing the aircraft to a stop. Both crew members conducted an emergency ground egress and were unharmed.
A board of officers will investigate the accident.
